A look back at 2017

Another year is coming to a close and what a year it has been! This is when I like to look back through my posts from the year and pick my favorite recipe from each month. Then I hand it over to my official taste tester husband and let him pick his favorites as well. Sometimes we pick the same thing and other times we don't. This year has been a bit crazy with our twins going from babies to toddlers! I've done a lot of dabbling in posting baby and toddler foods which I've really enjoyed. It can still be tough to get quality kitchen time, but I do my best! Thanks to everyone who reads and comments and continues to follow me through eight years of this little blog now. I wish everyone all the best in 2018. Now here are my picks.

January
Raisin Pie: This old-fashioned pie was requested by my father-in-law for his birthday. I had never had one before and was super happy with the tasty results! As you probably know, pie is one of my favorite things to make and I always enjoy trying out new kinds.

February
Chocolate Chip Cherry Scones: Well, while I did really enjoy making (and eating) these scones, they were also the only recipe I posted in February, so they win by default. February must have been a tough baby month.... Also, I had a bad virus that month!

March
Maple Pecan Popcorn: Who can turn down caramel corn? This popcorn is a perfect maple season treat! Plus maple and pecans are such a classic flavor combination.

April
Salt & Vinegar Potato Wedges: I love potatoes - all things potatoes. And, I'm a huge fan of salt & vinegar chips, so these wedges were a big hit with me. This reminds me that I need to make them more frequently.

May
Rhubarb Custard Shortbread Bars: These bars were amazing and made a delicious treat for our Mother's Day celebration this year. I am a big fan of rhubarb and even did a round-up this year of 25 rhubarb recipes (that aren't strawberry-rhubarb pie).

June
Cowboy Beans: Amazingly hearty and yummy stick-to-your-ribs beans with beef and bacon for your summer picnics and cookouts.

July
Three-cheese Turkey & Spinach Mac: Instead of a photo of this dish, here's a photo of two cuties gobbling it up. You can see the photo of the finished dish at the link. I think they liked it, and I liked it a lot, too!

August
Balsamic Chicken Caprese Pasta: I loved this pasta and will be making it frequently during the summers now. It's delicious, hearty, easy, and a whole meal for a hot summer day!

September
Baked Pumpkin Oatmeal: As I mentioned, baby and toddler friendly foods were a lot of my focus this year. Baked oatmeal has been one of their favorite breakfasts. I loved this pumpkin one and I also made peanut butter and zucchini bread baked oatmeals as well. It's such a versatile and easy family breakfast.

October
Banana Spinach Oat Blender Muffins: Again, a toddler food that I made to get my kids to eat more greens. However, these muffins are so simple and tasty (plus really pretty) that they win the top spot for October. They make a terrific breakfast or snack.

November
Turkey, Sweet Potato, & Quinoa Chili: November is always a difficult month for me to choose one recipe. One part of me really want to pick this cranberry custard pie, but this chili makes an almost weekly appearance on our menu and that really means something! It's such a hearty, healthy, and yummy dish and it's also very versatile.

December
White Chocolate Eggnog Fudge: This was another difficult month to pick because I'm sort of in love with these chewy molasses spice cookies. However, this fudge was so yummy and well-received. Also, it was one of those horizon and technique expanding recipes for me as I don't usually make fudge or candy, and that's something I always appreciate.
